Trees on Fairlie’s Main Road to be protected
Mature trees on Main Road are to be protected under a tree preservation order, in a local authority bid to safeguard some rare imported species.
North Ayrshire Council's Tree Preservation Order has been put in place for two sites on the street – the grounds at number 59, which will protect a sycamore, and trees owned by number 61. It comes after a perceived threat to trees in the area after development interest.
Under the order, the trees are considered to be valuable landscape features to the locality, whilst also enhancing the local residential amenities.
Solicitor to the council, Ian T Mackay told the Largs and Millport News that the trees provide an important contribution to the character, amenity and townscape in the area.
He added: "The trees are located within the spacious garden grounds to houses at 59 and 61 Main Road, Fairlie, and provide a valuable landscape feature to the locality while also enhancing the local residential amenity.
"There is now a perceived threat to trees in the area from development interest and given their contribution to the local amenity and townscape, it is considered that the trees are worthy of protection."
