John (Jock) French

One of the last shipwrights to have worked under the orders of the illustrious William Fife III, John (Jock) French has passed away at the age of 90.  Jock was born in Bay Street and lived in Fairlie all of his life, leaving the village only to serve as a petty officer and diver during World War II.  An unassuming man, his family values, kindness and love of nature were an inspiration to many.  He will be missed immensely.

I would like to say to Dorothy how sad I am to hear about her dad. He was my Dad's cousin and I remember when she was a little baby. I am now living in Torquay so I don't get much local news only from this website and my sister who lives in West Kilbride. Thinking of you,Lesley Bond(Currie)
