Hunterston power plan "riddled with schoolboy errors" say campaigners
24 OctoberThe proposal to build a £3billion coal-fired power station at Hunterston is "riddled with schoolboy errors", campaigners have said.
North Ayrshire Council will hear views from objectors and the applicant today (Monday, October 24) with its decision expected to be submitted to the Scottish Government on Wednesday, November 9.
Ayrshire Power says the proposed coal and biomass fuel station could supply up to three million homes - but more than 20,000 people have signed a petition to stop the plant, more objections than any other plan in Scottish planning history.
According to HeraldScotland groups including WWF Scotland and RSPB Scotland have highlighted what they say are "inaccuracies and errors" in the proposals put forward by the company ahead of today's consultation.
Campaigners said the errors included failing to tell the difference between the UK's largest eagle and a small moorland bird, and overestimating emissions' reductions.
A spokesman for Ayrshire Power said the proposal was "robust" despite "a small number of minor errors".
