Photographs from Fairlie's past

  • Children enjoy a battle in the snow in Fairlie, 1952. Both photos copyright The Herald & Times Group.
  • Sisters and nursery school children from Nazareth House on Fairlie Beach.

These photos come from The Herald photo archive, and we share them here in the hope that there may be lots of wonderful pics of the past in Fairlie albums and drawers.

s1fairlie is the place to post your memories of the past and reminisce about the days gone by.

Daniel Kerr says

Can anyone put a date to the picture of the nuns on the beach with nursery children. Danny Kerr

Site Admin says

Hi Danny, all we know is the caption that appeared in The Herald, sadly no date. Maybe someone else knows more?

"Fairley Beach during Glasgow Fair. Sisters and nursery school children from the Nazareth House Convent, Cardonald, are enjoying themselves on Fairlie beach during Glasgow Fair holiday."

Pat Warden says

The tide looks really low at that time, I've never seen it so low! It's almost like you can walk to Millport

Jean Doull says

My mum was born and brought up in Fairlie, Kelburn Pl, Jean Doull. Would love to hear from anyone who knew her.
I know her father was a market gardener at Skelmorlie Castle, Hugh Campbell Doull.
She had a sister Daisy and others.

Found this while searching through all my old images on my PC, image of Fairlie Pier and Station.

Gordon says

Another pic of Fairlie Pier and Station, unknown who took it or when.

RODGER CRAWFORD says

The train pic at Fairlie Pier is around the early 60's it may have been taken by my uncle S.V. Fletcher as I recall having seen this before.

He and my aunt lived at Broom Cottage on Montgomerie Drive.

Dawn Martin says

Would like to get in touch with people I knew in Fairlie before my family moved to Canada. My name then was Dawn Andrews.

Memories, Nostalgia & History

History doesn't have to be in black & white

Your memory of a local character or a school photo from the last ten years can be just as interesting as wars and Victorians.
