Fairlie sits on the Firth of Clyde in North Ayrshire, overlooking the Isle of Arran and the Cumbraes, south of Largs and the Kelburn Castle Country Centre & Estate and five miles north of West Kilbride. It was the birthplace of William Fife, who built yachts in Fairlie in the first half of the 20th century, and Hunterston Nuclear Power Station and Hunterston Deep Sea Shipping Terminal are prominent on the shoreline. Fairlie became Scotland's First Fairtrade Village in March 2004. Fairlie is home to around 1500 people, and s1fairlie.com has been developed to allow residents to share their news, views and opinions, make announcements, publicise events and show off their photos and videos.
